Common questions about our studio, sound and live production work
Answers on scope, scheduling, equipment and working arrangements, for engineers, producers and organisers considering a project with starlova.
Frequently asked questions
Below are the questions we hear most often before a project begins. If yours is not covered, send it through the contact page and we will answer in writing.
- 01
What kinds of projects do you take on?
We work on broadcast studio design, camera control systems, lighting design, sound engineering, live event production and workflow reviews. Clients are mainly television networks, production companies and live event organisers. A project can be a single service, such as a lighting plot, or several combined, such as a full studio fit-out with sound and cameras.
- 02
Do you supply the equipment or only the design?
Our work centres on design, configuration, operation and crewing. Where equipment is needed, we specify what suits your programmes and budget, and we can advise on sourcing. We do not push particular makes. The quotation states clearly what is included, so you know what you are responsible for providing.
- 03
How do I start an enquiry?
Use the contact form on the contact page, or email or phone the office. Tell us what you are producing, the venue or studio, the dates and the crew size, if known. We reply with questions or a proposed approach, then issue a written quotation once the scope is clear.
- 04
Can you work with our existing studio and crew?
Yes. Many projects involve improving an existing room rather than building a new one. We review what you have, keep what works and change what causes problems. Your engineers are welcome to work alongside ours, and we provide written notes so they can maintain the result.
- 05
Do you cover events outside Gloucestershire?
We are based in Gloucester, but travel to studios and venues elsewhere in the United Kingdom when the project calls for it. Travel and any overnight stay are discussed in the quotation, so they are never a surprise on the invoice.
- 06
What does a workflow review involve?
We look at how material moves from ingest through editing, review and delivery, speaking with the people who do each step. The result is a written report showing where handovers, copies or waiting time can be reduced, with changes ranked by effort. Implementing them is optional.
- 07
Can you train our crew on audio or camera control?
Daniel runs practical sessions on monitoring and mixing practice, and Tom supports crews on camera control and routing during shoot days. The content is agreed with you in advance and based on your own equipment and programmes rather than a generic course.
- 08
How are changes to the plan handled once work has started?
Changes are common in production, so we confirm them in writing before acting on them. We explain any effect on time or cost first, then update the plan. Nothing is added to an invoice that was not agreed beforehand through the quotation or confirmation.
